What is the history of this award?
In 2005, the Women and Girls Foundation (WGF) pledged to annually honor a select group of women who are engaged in dynamic work in exciting and challenging career fields in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This annual event honors women innovators, inspires young women to see the range of career options available to them, and demonstrates how women are having leadership impact in shaping the Southwest Pennsylvania region economically.
The awards gala serves as the annual fundraiser for The Women and Girls Foundation, raising funds to advance the mission of the organization – to achieve equality for women and girls in Southwest Pennsylvania.
Who are we honoring in 2012?
We need your help to identify and celebrate the work of outstanding men working in the eleven counties of Southwestern Pennsylvania who are engaged in championing gender equity. This category should be broadly defined and can range from men providing equal opportunities for the advancement of women in their organizations or companies, to policymakers helping to protect women’s rights, to men who coach and mentor young women at an individual level, and much much more.
Please nominate someone you admire and tell us how your nominee has helped lead by example in making our region a better place for women and girls to live, work, and thrive!
